Abstract

Application of the Method of Moving Asymptotes The Method of Moving Asymptotes (MMA) has been revealed as a useful tool for solving approaches that appear in the field of topological optimization. In structural problems, from certain limitations set within a domain, we can get the design variables that maximize or minimize a previously chosen feature. Thus, it is possible to make parts or structures optimal for the application for which they are required. This project aims to study the validity of MMA for topological optimization problems performing a theoretical and numerical study of the method and implementing codes provided by the original developer, noting that the results are valid and accurate enough for the requirements that have been previously established. The project has been developed in three phases. First, we have proceeded to a study of the state of the art, which defines the concept of topological optimization and performs an overview of the current existing methods. We have also studied the advantages and disadvantages they have and mentioned some examples of these methods with their basic characteristics and some particularities. Second, we have defined the Method of Moving Asymptotes (MMA), his mathematical procedure and its theoretical base of operation. Then, we have implemented the codes provided by the developer of the method using the program MATLAB, verifying the performance and potential problems that may arise, achieving a more comprehensive understanding of the method and its operation. Finally, we have developed new optimization problems and we have generated the appropriate codes based on the method MMA, obtaining suitable solutions. Thus, the usefulness of the method has been validated and has been shown the consolidation of knowledge, in addition to establishing new possible applications.

El Mètode de les Asímptotes Mòbils (MMA) s'ha desvetllat com una eina útil per a la resolució dels plantejaments que sorgeixen en el camp de l'optimització topològica. En els problemes estructurals, a partir d'unes limitacions i dins d'un domini establert, s'obtenen les variables de disseny que maximitzen o minimitzen una característica escollida prèviament. D'aquesta manera, és possible realitzar peces o estructures òptimes per a l'aplicació per a la qual són requerides. Aquest projecte pretén estudiar la validesa del MMA per als problemes d'optimització topològica realitzant un estudi teòric i numèric del mètode i implementant els codis originals proporcionats pel seu desenvolupador, comprovant que els resultats obtinguts són vàlids i prou acurats per a les necessitats establertes prèviament. El projecte s'ha desenvolupat en tres fases. En primer lloc, s'ha procedit a un estudi de l'estat de l'art, en què es defineix el concepte d'optimització topològica i es realitza una visió general dels actuals mètodes existents, els avantatges i inconvenients que presenten i alguns exemples. En segon lloc, s'ha definit el Mètode de les Asímptotes Mòbils (MMA), el seu procediment matemàtic i la seva base teòrica de funcionament. A continuació, s'han implementat amb el programa MATLAB els codis proporcionats pel desenvolupador del mètode, comprovant-ne el funcionament i els possibles problemes que pot ocasionar, assolint una comprensió més exhaustiva del mètode i del seu funcionament.
