Privacy preserving photo sharing analysis and derived compression technique for images

Abstract

[ANGLÈS] The initial idea for my thesis was to analyse the algorithm to: find possible ways to attack the privacy component, figure out ways to apply filtering to the privacy enabled images or reduce the overall size of the resulting files. After some weeks of research we found that the approach upon which the algorithm is based gives base to creating a new encoding system to improve the overall compression of jpeg images. The scheme we implemented comes from the idea that the thresholding technique used in the P3 algorithm will make run-length blocks common enough within an image or even across multiple images to create dictionaries with information on a full block rather than a symbol for each non-zero coefficient (as jpeg does). To summarise, in this project we study the P3 algorithm and a new encoding scheme for images based on its thresholding technique.

[CASTELLÀ] La idea inicial de mi PFC era analizar el algoritmo para: encontrar posibles formas de atacar la componente de privacidad, encontrar formas de aplicar filtros a las imágenes con privacidad habilitada o reducir el tamaño total de los archivos resultantes (tras aplicar el algoritmo). La solución que implementamos viene de la idea de que la técnica de "thresholding" (umbral) empleada en el algoritmo P3 hará que los bloques "run/length" (véase 2.1) sean suficientemente comunes dentro de una imagen o incluso entre múltiples imágenes para crear diccionarios con información relativa a un bloque entero y no solo un símbolo para cada coeficiente distinto de cero (como hace jpeg). Resumiendo, en este proyecto estudiamos el algoritmo P3 y un nuevo sistema de codificación de imágenes basado en su técnica de thresholding.

[CATALÀ] L'idea inicial del meu PFC era analitzar l'algoritme per: trobar possibles formes d'atacar la component de privacitat, trobar formes d'aplicar filtres a les imatges amb privacitat habilitada o reduir el tamany total dels arxius resultants (un cop aplicat l'algoritme). La solució que vam implementar ve de l'idea de que la tècnica de "thresholding" (llindar) emprada a l'algoritme P3 farà que els blocs "run/length" (veure 2.1) siguin suficientment comuns dintre d'una imatge o inclús entre múltiples imatges per crear diccionaris amb informació relativa a un bloc sencer i no nomes un símbol per cada coeficient diferent de zero (com fa jpeg). Resumint, en aquest projecte estudiem l'algoritme P3 i un nou sistema de codificació d'imatges basat en la seva tècnica de thresholding.
