Rehabilitación y propuesta de uso del “Mercat del Carme” de Vilassar de Dalt

Abstract

This project is made considering the importance of preserve the heritage of our towns. It starts from the disuse of the building in Vilassar de Dalt object of this project, due to the move of the market into another building. First of all we obtained information about the history of the building. It was made in 1883 and has over than 120 years of history full of conflicts and events; and it is from the beginning, a meeting place for the townspeople/villagers. It was a difficult task because there are only a few documents about the building in the municipal files. As a consequence, most of the details are obtained talking with the older villagers about their memories of the activities in the building before it was a market. Second of all, our objective was the rehabilitation of the building to return its status as a meeting place in the village. We have made an exhaustive study of the current conditions and damage in the building. After the study of the damages we had to define its reasons and it was hard because in some elements there are many causes for the lesions. So we established the causes based on bibliography, it could be wrong but we chose the most logical and consistent possibility. Third of all we have studied the most efficient and respectful intervention to repair the damage, taking into account the foundations and structure of the building, its age and construction system. We have made the detailed budget of the required intervention too. Finally, we made this project to provide the building a new use, so that all the townspeople may enjoy this traditional meeting place. The building has to adapt to the requirements of the current regulations (CTE), in terms of accessibility, fire security, acoustics, energy save and healthiness. We also made the calculation of the necessary changes in the existing structure to comply with these requirements.
