dc.description.abstract | [ANGLÈS] Harbour agitation is a phenomenon consisting on the oscillation of waves found inside a harbor. It becomes important when the incident waves have a big height, and a frequency close to that of the harbor basins. This phenomenon, that affects harbors around the world, can generate violent oscillatory movements of the semi-closed waters. Consequences can be damage to structures or boats, and operativity problems, generating important economic losses. Working with the wave predictions, together with the harbor agitation predictions, we can avoid damage, as well as guarantee the user’s safety. In this graduation thesis, a pre-operational system for the harbor agitation of Port Fòrum of Barcelona is presented. The system works through a finite difference numerical model, of the Boussinesq type. This model can simulate the principal physical phenomena that occur when waves arrive to and into the harbor, with a low computational cost. To resolve this model in finite differences, the creation of a mesh is required, by defining the bathymetry and domain of the study area. In addition, it requires to be calibrated comparing their results with measurements, recorded by a directional buoy located in front of the study domain. From the buoy data a number of cases have been selected. Model results have been compared with data recorded these wave gauges, located at strategic points inside the harbour. The model results show a reasonable level of agreement with the measurements. Finally, once the model has been calibrated, two solutions have been proposed and tested, in order to reduce the agitation within the harbour. |
