The objective is to renovate and extend the IES El Palau of Sant Andreu de la Barca, with a new Gym and workshop classrooms on the ground floor and classrooms on the first floor, which we will call Technical College (Cicles Formatius). There is no basement, although one of the workshop classrooms will stay a bit below the pavement level. This building work took place between January 2008 and August 2009. Both the Gym and the Technical College building were initially planned with conventional foundation (footings), as it can be gathered from the first geotechnical report. However, a second geotechnical study was carried to obey CTE, which rose more doubts to the project, so it was necessary to carry out a third geotechnical study to finally determine the foundations needed. The aim of this project is to evaluate the different possibilities that the building work had once it has been executed and so we do have the real cost data regarding every chosen option.
