The effect of mindfulness on creative thinking within organizations
Nisco, Rossella de; Torrents Arévalo, Juan Antonio; Vilajosana Crusells, Jordi
Objectives Research on the effects of meditation practice on creativity performance is a new and promising area of research. Although this field is still young, there are already enough studies showing a correlation between Mindfulness training and improvements in creativity, especially in the field of organizational psychology. In this study, we aimed to determine the efficacy of a 6-week Mindfulnessbased intervention in improving creativity in organizations’ workers. Method For this longitudinal study, a 6-week specific protocol was used with a group of workers at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, (n = 10). At the beginning of the training, the subjects were tested in Mindfulness and creativity using, respectively, the Five Facets Mindfulness Questionnaire and Crea tests. After the six sessions, the group was tested again. Results The analysis of the Crea test results showed an improvement in the subjects’ creative skills: On the first test, the mean total score was 573, and on the second test it was 694. Therefore, we can confirm that Mindfulness increases creativity; however, this improvement was observed only in the female subjects. Furthermore, we analyzed the effects of different aspects of Mindfulness on creativity and noted that the aspect of observation, (the ability to pay close attention to and carefully observe sensations, thoughts, and emotions) and the aspect of observation, (the ability to distance oneself from what is happening in the attentional field without instantly reacting to the stimulus), yielded better results in our research.

In developed countries, public procurement is used to incentivize private companies to invest in innovation. But, governments of developing countries fail to do as much. However, since the size of the market in these countries is small, obtaining and carrying out large public contracts are opportunities that private companies must seize in order to innovate. This contribution analyzes the effect of public procurement on the incentive of private companies to innovate. We use primary data collected from private companies participating in large public tenders in Burkina Faso. The results obtained from probit model with instrumental variables (IV probit) show that public procurement effectively exerts positive externalities on the incentive of private companies to innovate. However, to further increase the influence of public procurement on the private companies’ incentive to innovate, the government needs to ensure that the procurement process is free from imperfections such as corruption and information asymmetries that may limit their efficiency in this area.

Carbonell Launois, Nicolas; Nanéma, Mahamadi; Nassè, Théophile Bindeouè; Ouédraogo, Alidou
This research aims to analyze the factors of performance at mid-term development projects in developing countries in general and in particular in the context of Burkina Faso. This is to identify the internal and external factors that explain the level of performance at mid-term development projects in Burkina Faso context. The methodology used is essentially based on the hypothetico-deductive approach. The overall sample size is 60 respondents, but because of technical issues and professional issues only 35 respondents have been able to participate actively on the quantitative aspect of the study. The research results show, first, that there are two internal factors to project management that positively and significantly influence performance at mid-term development projects in Burkina Faso. These are the planning variable and the Human resources management variable, respectively. Second, concerning the identified external factors, only the variable environment or area of project intervention influences positively and significantly the mid-term performance at development projects in Burkina Faso. Nevertheless, recommendations are formulated for more efficiency in the implementation of development projects.

Understanding STEM career choices: a systematic mapping
López López, María José; Simó Guzmán, Pep; Marco Gómez, Jordi
STEM disciplines are considered essential for human development, and they are associated with low unemployment rates and good economic prospects. However, many countries are faced with the problem of too few STEM graduates, which raises the question of why more students do not choose STEM majors. This study presents a systematic mapping of studies published prior to 2021 in Web of Science or Scopus in order to examine the research trends on the factors that cause students to choose a career in Computer Science, or more generically, in the STEM fields. These factors have been identified and classified in 3 categories: Environmental factors, Social influencers and Personal factors. The categories are made up of 4 levels of subcategories. We analyzed (1) the countries in which the study was conducted, (2) the characteristics of the study and (3) the frameworks used. The results show that the bulk of the studies were conducted in developed countries, mainly in North America and Europe. The frameworks most commonly used in the studies are Expectancy-Value Theory and Social Cognitive Career Theory, and consequently, the most commonly studied factors for STEM degrees are those related to personal psychological factors. For Computer Science degrees, the most frequently studied factor is career prospects. On the other hand, a small number of studies on the impact of social media on the choice of studies in the technology field were detected. Among the studies analyzed, there is great interest in determining the factors that specifically affect women and the differences between men and women, especially in studies dealing with the Computer Sciences. Furthermore, there are few studies that analyze the effect of informal educational experiences among women. Given that this kind of experiences has become very popular in recent years among women, future research should analyze their impact on the choice of STEM studies. Taking into account the current relevance of the social media, additional research on their impact on the choice of studies should be conducted. It would also be necessary to analyze the situation in underdeveloped countries, especially among women, given that this field is currently a driver of economic development.

Occupational exposure to nanomaterials: A bibliometric study of publications over the last decade
Mohammadi, Payam; Galera Rodrigo, Asun
Owing to the increased use of nanomaterials, the number of employees and professionals who are exposed to these chemicals is on the rise, despite the paucity of organized data on the possible dangers associated with exposure to these compounds. Multiple studies reveal that the lack of nanosafety awareness among employees and businesses is a serious problem that must be addressed. This shortage of information may result from insufficient knowledge generation or transmission. Academic publications play a significant role in producing new knowledge. This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of published research on workplace nanosafety which this bibliometric analysis aims to establish the permeability and significance of nanosafety themes from an occupational safety and health viewpoint in academia, to gain a better understanding of the knowledge generation phase in the area, and detected advantages and disadvantages of the topic. Scopus was used as the data source in this study. A total of 1,170 publications were gathered and analyzed. The results indicated that the United States is a leader in several aspects of nanosafety at the workplace. The synthesis of co-citation and author-keyword phrases provided insight into determining the focal points of the current study. Analysis of meta data indicates that the number of writers is rising. Nanomaterial toxicity, risk assessment, and occupational exposure are the three hottest topics in this field, according to the result. In addition, the findings included worldwide growth rate, collaborative research fields, keywords, journals, and funding agencies. The advantages and disadvantages of the knowledge creation phase of nanosafety at the workplace were examined in the conclusion.

The materiality of organizational identity: a case of Codorníu wineries
Sunyer Torrents, Albert; Hinojosa Recasens, Josep-Domingo; Gibb, Jenny
The purpose of this research is to deepen understanding of the materiality in organizational identity (OI) by describing how physical objects support, instantiate and communicate OI over time.
The research design uses an in-depth case study of Codorníu wineries taking a symbolic interactionism methodological lens. The study examines a set of physical objects preserved from the company’s foundation in 1551 to the present day and their associated identity meanings.
This study uncovered how the company used multiple objects to symbolically represent its identity. Some of these objects were primal artifacts to legitimize organizational identity since the firm’s foundation, others were interpreted as identity markers to instantiate identity and provide it with greater persistence, while others were created ad hoc to communicate organizational identity to external audiences. Some physical objects were used to differentiate the organization and its products from competitors, while others were used to maintain a temporary and spatial link with the organization's founding origins.
The analysis of the meanings associated with material objects shows that identity tangibility has not hindered organizational adaptation and change. Some identity objects gained relevance, while others were reinterpreted or abandoned according to their symbolic value in order to embody organizational identity at a given time. Four trajectories were identified which describe the evolution of physical objects in representing an organization’s identity over time.
This study describes practical implications on the use of identity materiality to build legitimacy, employee identification, differentiation from competitors and reputation.

Entrepreneurship education has the mandate to equip the youth with functional knowledge and skills to build up their character, attitude and vision. It has vital role in developing eco-system that promotes innovation and solving unemployment challenges of nations. Government of Ghana has initiated direct job creation interventions to address youth unemployment challenges. Examples include: Skill Training and Employment Placement (STEP) Programme (2002- 2004), National Youth Employment Programme (NYEP), now Youth Employment Agency (YEA) in 2006, Youth Enterprise Support (YES), now National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Plan (NEIP) in 2014, and the recent Nation Builders Corps. Despite the above efforts, unemployment rates in Ghana instead of reducing, increased from 2.15% in 2015, 2.26% in 2016 to 2.36% in 2017; whilst youth unemployment rate increased from 4.51% in 2015, 4.72% in 2016 to 4.9% in 2017. Therefore, this study attempts to conceptualize the relevance of entrepreneurial education to solving the youth unemployment challenges in Ghana.

Even before the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching was considered one of the most stressful occupations, one that could provoke burnout in workers. Continuing to provide educational services despite the pandemic and the new methodologies was a challenge for teachers that demonstrated their engagement in their work. This research, from the model of healthy and resilient organizations (HERO), aimed to assess the perception of healthy organizational practices (HOP) of teachers of an educational institution during the years 2020 and 2021 and the impact they have on their levels of engagement and burnout. Through the application of three instruments, 154 responses were obtained. The data were analyzed through correlations and mean comparisons. The main results show that in 2020, the correlations between HOP with engagement and burnout were positive and negative, respectively, as expected. In 2021, the perception of HOP decreased, as did teacher engagement, while burnout increased. In conclusion, the findings suggest that HOP can become a sustainable human resource management tool that promotes teachers’ mental health, even in challenging times.
