Computer simulation of the atomic behaviour in condensed phases
Giró Roca, Antoni; Padró Càrdenas, Joan Àngel
Molecular dynamics simulation method for the study of condensed phases of matter is described in this paper. Computer programs for the simulation of atomic motion have been developed. Time-saving techniques, like the cellular method have been incorporated in order to optimize the available computer resources. We have applied this method to the simulation of Argon near its melting point. Differences in the structure, thermodynamic properties and time correlation functions of solid and liquid phases are discussed.

Así, y aplicando las técnicas de Análisis Multivariante más adecuadas a nuestro caso (Análisis Discriminante, Análisis Cluster,...) se efectúan las agrupaciones que mejor explican el comportamiento de los barrios.; Although we mar tend to perceive a town like Valencia as an indivisible unit, it has in fact been formed trough the years of its whole history. Ever since the "boom" of the 1960's Valencia receives an important number of immigrants, wich in turns resulted in the creation of most of the actual districts. Nowadays Valencia is divided in 87 districts wich are socially and economically, very homogenous.
This paper intends to measure and to analyse the social and economic differ- ences amoung the districts, in order to explain the electoral results, by means of a simple political behaviour model (left-right)
Some variables are choosed from the Population Census and the Car Census in 1981,and form electoral results on Local Elections of 1979 an 1983, namely those best describing characteristics of districts. They are then used in multi- variate statistical tools (Discriminat Analysis, Cluster Analysis...) in order to find grou ps for explaining districts political behaviour.

Se propone un algoritmo adecuado y se demuestra su validez.; In this paper, two possible estimators for the dependence parameter in a bivariate system of distributions with specified marginals are introduced. These estimators are based on the correlation coefficients of Kendall and Spearman, respectively. A Monte GarIo study is perfomed to evaluate their relative biass and efficiency. This study is algo extended to the Jackknife statistic, for one of them (this one bases on the Kendall statistic, resulting to be the best of both). Some variance reduction techniques are used in the Monte GarIo study. As a prerequisite to the simulations, a fast algorith for computer generation of the bivariate system is obtained.

In this paper we have studied the problem of the additive tree representation. Our purpose was develop a formal structure that could allow us to analyse that problem from the general perspective of the metric representation method in multivariate data analysis.
Moreover, we have studied the relationship between additive tree represen- tations and ultrametric tree representations through this struct ure.
On the other hand, this study lends an alternative, from another viewpoint, to the formalitation developed by Buneman (1971).

We have studied the average and the variance of the size of simplified trees obtained by simplifying a random tree, for both families of p-ary and general trees. But the most interesting fact in these paper is the methodology we have used, that in our opinion could be applied to the analysis of a broad class of tree simplification algorithms. This methodology involves the study of Borne formal power series, and the application of the Darboux-Polya theorem to obtain asympthotic approximationsj as well as Borne other results from complex analysis.

The linear relaxation of the model is analyzed using a primal-dual approach. Solutions to the dual are obtained solving one product uncapacitated models penalizing the capacity restrictions.
The restricted primals correspond to feasibility tests of the dual implied solution.
The restricted dual informs on the recommended new penalties for the capacity restrictions. The paper concludes with a proposed algorithm to select the increasing penalties to guarantee monotone improvements toward the optimal solution.
