Abstract
This whitepaper describes a new research master program to be deployed in some European cities starting 2024/2025. It innovates in the field of computer science in the sense that it mixes three areas commonly not taught together, Networking, Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, and it experiments new teaching methodologies.
Some context about the project. AI4CI is a project funded by the European Commission, its Digital Skills program meant to support the creation of new training programs in advanced areas in computer science such as artificial intelligence, robotics, Internet of Things and cybersecurity. AI4CI is a research-oriented master programme that is at the crossing of these four areas, and which introduces new teaching methodologies.
AI4CI will deliver master degrees in seven cities of five countries: France, Germany, Romania, Spain and Ukraine. Five Small and Medium Entreprises (SMEs), two additional universities and three research centers, from the same countries as well as Greece, Italy and Switzerland, contribute to both the teaching and the training activities. Training activities can take place as either research internship, or apprenticeship contracts in AI4CI SMEs and research centers, as well any other company or research center working in the AI4CI areas.
The AI4CI program further introduces several computing education innovations we aim to share with ICER community, for instance: • rotating on-site and hybrid teaching at multiple teaching sites for the same course, for some courses; • introduction of short-term-courses, that is, full-time 1-week courses, delivered jointly by academics and professionals from R&D departments; • syllabus composed of compulsory and optional parts in each course, differentiating the deployment of a given course across different sites; • fully remote accredited master for Ukrainian students stranded across Europe and within Ukraine, by leveraging on both local and remote professors from the consortium.
