En el último siglo, el sector de la construcción ha tenido un crecimiento desmesurado alargando un antiguo modelo de construcción que data de la revolución industrial, esto conlleva a grandes emisiones de CO2 en todas las etapas de la construcción de un proyecto, generando desastrosos sucesos. Frente a este caótico panorama, resultaba imperativo cambiar el antiguo modelo y establecer uno nuevo el cual este soportado en el uso de materiales renovables y sostenibles como la madera; así, la madera e impulsada por los grandes avances tecnológicos y la generación de nuevos productos derivados de este material, se ha posicionado como una opción competente frente a este modelo. Para comprobar este suceso, se lleva a cabo una investigación la cual se divide en dos etapas, la primera consta de una indagación enfocada puntualizar las características del material y derivados que posteriormente se sintetiza en diferentes herramientas de análisis, las cuales se emplean en la segunda etapa del estudio, donde se analizan 10 casos de estudio situados en Cataluña. Se elige esta ubicación, ya que, además de ser un sector en crecimiento en este tipo de construcciones, es importante para la presente investigación contar con casos de estudio de los cuales se pudiera hallar información significativa y de primera mano. Además, se elige analizar casos edificados en los últimos 10 años donde se demuestran soluciones actuales. Posteriormente, por medio de la discusión y conclusiones, se dispone una perspectiva más esclarecida del auge que ha tomado este material, de una manera más tangible que es a través de proyectos construidos, donde se demuestra las grandes ventajas del material y sus sistemas, como sus propiedades tecnológicas, comportamiento, entre otros.

Over the last century, the construction sector has had an excessive growth lengthening an ancient construction model dating from the industrial revolution; this entails to great CO2 emissions in every stage of the construction of a project, generating disastrous events. Facing this chaotic scenario, it was imperative to change the old model and to stablish a new one, which is supported by the use of renewable and sustainable materials such as wood; thus, wood and driven by the great technological advances and the new products generation from this material, has positioned itself as a competent option for this new model. To corroborate this event, an investigation is carried out which is divided in two stages, first one consist in an inquiry focused on pointing out the characteristics of this material and its derivatives which are summed up in different tools of analysis, which are used in the second stage of the study, where 10 case studies located in Cataluña are being analyzed. This location is chosen, since, besides being a sector in growth in this type of constructions, it’s important to count with cases in which significant information could be found and specially of first hand. In addition, cases built in the last ten years area chosen to analyze because they show current solutions. Later, through the discussion and conclusions, there is a more enlightened perspective of the boom that this material has taken, of a more tangible way that is through built projects, where the great advantages of the material and its systems area shown, such as its technological properties, functional behavior, among others.
