El present treball pretén estudiar la viabilitat tècnica i econòmica de la reobertura d’una antiga explotació minera situada en un jaciment de carbonat càlcic (CaCO3) ubicat a la comarca del Baix Penedès, a Tarragona. Aquest estudi es centra en una zona de la comarca on aflora un important jaciment de carbonat càlcic que actualment és explotat per diverses empreses mineres del sector. L’àmplia sortida al món industrial d’aquest producte i el seu elevat cost de venta, sobretot en altes pureses, ha fet portar a una de les empreses explotadores de la zona, Reverté Minerals S.A., a plantejar-se la reobertura de la pedrera Eurocal, ara mateix abandonada. El propòsit d’aquest treball es centra en la modelització de la geologia de la zona; la distinció segons les qualitats del mineral d’acord amb criteris requerits per la companyia; el disseny d’explotació més òptim per garantir la mínima afectació dels condicionants externs; i la posterior elaboració del balanç econòmic per concloure l’estudi. Tot això amb l’ajuda del software Maptek Vulcan®, programa assimilat en tres de les assignatures del Màster Universitari en Enginyeria de Mines. D’aquesta manera, es vol aconseguir una idea al màxim fidedigna de la viabilitat econòmica de l’explotació d’aquest jaciment perquè l’empresa Reverté Minerals S.A. pugui continuar la seva producció de CaCO3 en un futur.

This work aims to study the technical and economic feasibility of reopening an old mining operation located in a calcium carbonate (CaCO3) deposit in the Baix Penedès region of Tarragona. This study focuses on an area of the region that is home to an important calcium carbonate deposit that is currently exploited by various mining companies in the sector. The large industrial market outlets for this product and its high cost of sale, especially in high purities, has led one of the mining companies in the area, Reverté Minerals S.A., to consider reopening the Eurocal quarry, which is currently abandoned. The purpose of this work focuses on the modelling of the geology of the area; the distinction according to the qualities of the mineral in accordance with the criteria required by the company; the most optimal exploitation design to guarantee the minimum impact of external conditioning factors; and the subsequent preparation of the economic balance sheet to conclude the study. All of this with the help of Maptek Vulcan® software, a programme assimilated in three of the subjects of the Master's Degree in Mining Engineering. In this way, it is possible to obtain an idea as close as possible to the reality of the exploitation of this deposit so that the company Reverté Minerals S.A. can continue its CaCO3 production in the future.
