This study considers alternative methods for reliable energy supply in Nigeria through social energy systems (SES). Social energy systems combine energy, community and political concerns to promote consumer participation, sustainable energy use and energy democracy. This study set out to understand the existing SES business in Nigeria, understand their limitation and consider avenues for scaling them through connection with the central grid. By analyzing existing literature and 6 businesses. The study pinpointed the relevance of product-service energy systems in serving the Nigerian market and proposed two new business models that can be implemented for implementing and scaling social energy systems in Nigeria.
