Els mestres i l'arquitectura de Mitjans

Abstract

Francesc Mitjans Miró, (Barcelona, 1909-2006), en una entrevista al Quadern del diari El País, 15 de desembre 2005, preguntat per Catalina Serra: quins són els arquitectes més infl uents en la seva obra respon, Raimon Duran i Reynals, Barcelona 1895-1966 i Mies van der Rohe, Aquisgrà, 1886, Xicago, 1969. En anteriors entrevistes, va comentar altres arquitectes com McKim, Mead & White, Arne Jacobsen i els SOM. Cap comentari a l’obra de Le Corbusier. Tot i que tenim coneixement del respecte que Mitjans sentia per Duran i Reynals, podem dir que en general el segon es més traçut i resolutiu en les seves distribucions en planta. Hi ha una claredat compositiva lligada a l’estructura muraria, que li permetrà a més utilitzar o escollir qualsevol llenguatge estilístic en les seves façanes. Mitjans, contràriament, és un arquitecte que, un cop superat el seu període classicista britànic dels anys 40, s’obre als corrents internacionals. La importància de la horitzontalitat, el doble llenguatge que A. Jacobsen utilitza, ja sigui quan afronta edifi cis d’habitatges, ja sigui quan afronta edifi cis d’ofi cines juntament amb la rigurositat i constant superació de Mies, li pot servir de referència.

Even though we know the respect Mitjans felt towards Duran i Reynals, in general we can say that the second one is more skilled and operative in his fl oor plan distributions. There’s a compositional clarity linked to the wall structure that in addition will allow him to use or choose any stylistic language on his facades. There’s also a respectful attitude towards the context and the user. Mitjans, on the other hand is an architect who, once he overcome his classicist british period of the 40s, he opens up to the international movements. The importance of the horizontality, the double language that A. Jacobsen uses in his residential projects and in his offi ces on urban areas, the admiration towards Mies’ architecture and the evolution of the American city, will give as a result, among others, the best contribution to Barcelona’s Modern Architecture between the decades of the 50’s and 60’s of the XXth century
