      Article
      Open Access
The massive deployment of 5G and beyond will require high capacity and low latency connectivity services, so network operators will have either to overprovision capacity in their transport networks or to upgrade the optical ...
    • Comparison of single carrier and OFDM with back-propagation and RF pilot tone for a 9x224Gb/s POLMUX-16QAM system

Prat Gomà, Josep Joan; Díaz Souto, Alberto; Maalej, Z.; Lobato, A.; Adhikari, Sukumar Das; Timmers, E.; Napoli, Antonio; Kuschnerov, M.; Spinnler, B. (2011)
      Conference report

The performance of single carrier and OFDM is compared when nonlinear compensation at the DSP receiver is employed. We show that the joint use of RF-pilot and back-propagation adds further improvement to OFDM performance.
    • Digital pre-emphasis for 10Gb/s with low-cost directly phase-modulated lasers for PONs

Tabares Giraldo, Jeison; Napoli, Antonio; Polo Querol, Víctor; Calabro, S.; Sommerkorn-Krombholz, B.; Spinnler, B.; Prat Gomà, Josep Joan (Optical Society of American (OSA), 2018)
      Conference report

We apply digital pre-emphasis to compensate for the frequency response non-idealities of low-cost optical transmitters. It enables transmission beyond 10Gb/s with 2/4/8-DPSK using directly modulated lasers and coherent ...
    • Dynamic and efficient point-to-point and point-to-multipoint communications by slicing the optical constellation

Iqbal, Masab; Ruiz Ramírez, Marc; Costa, Nelson; Napoli, Antonio; Pedro, João; Velasco Esteban, Luis Domingo (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022)
      Conference lecture
      Open Access
Optical Constellation Slicing is proposed to convey heterogenous traffic from a source to multiple destinations, while supporting dynamic capacity allocation. Illustrative numerical results reveal the potential of the ...
    • Experimental demonstration of multi-vendor and multi-domain elastic optical network with data and control interoperability over a pan-european test-bed

      Article
      Open Access
The operation of multidomain and multivendor EONs can be achieved by interoperable sliceable bandwidth variable transponders (S-BVTs), a GMPLS/BGP-LS-based control plane, and a planning tool. The control plane is extended ...

      Conference report
      Open Access
A lightweight optical constellations modeling method based on concatenating ANNs is proposed. Statistical validation of the reproduced constellations is shown. The method accelerates data generation and facilitates detecting ...

Iqbal, Masab; Velasco Esteban, Luis Domingo; Costa, Nelson; Napoli, Antonio; Pedro, João; Ruiz Ramírez, Marc (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), 2022-04)
      Article
      Open Access
High capacity and low latency of optical connections are ideal for supporting current and future communication services, including 5G and beyond. Although some of those services are already secured at the packet layer using ...
