Dortmund/Berlin (Germany) july 13th-16th, 2003

From July, 8th to12th, 2003, there will be the third joint congress of the European and American planningscholars ACSP / AESOP in Leuven, Belgium.

This event is followed by the post-congress "The Future of Deindustrialising Regions: Planning for Urban and Regional Transformation", which will be held in Dortmund, Germany (July, 13th to 16th, 2003) .

In Dortmund nine tracks will discuss the planning challenges as well as the planning opportunities of old-industrial regions.


  • The themes of these tracks are: Globalisation and regional economic development; Deindustrialising regions: laboratories for planning education; Culture, entertainment and urban development; Brownfield redevelopment; Regional governance: producing visions for sustainable institutions; Sustainable mobility; The 'social city': demographic change, multiculturalism and local economies; Sustainability and mixed-land use; Industrial urbanism.

  • The experiences of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park will play a crucial role within the congress. Later on, the european trip will go to Berlin (Germany), where on July 17th and 18th the theme will be "Culture, Entertainment and Creative Industries".
