Stellations of the rhombic triacontahedron and beyond

Abstract

De nouvelles notations concises identifient les 226 étoilements totalement supportés (non rentrants) d’un solide isoèdre è trente faces bien connu, le rhombitriacontaèdre (m). On décrit des méthodes systématiques d’étiquetage en débutant par les éléments du diagramme d’étoilement et en terminant par les noms des étoilements du RTC et de leurs facettes exposées. On établit une corrélation entre les proprietes bidimensionnelles du diagramme detoilement et les propriétés tridimensionnelles des étoilements. En plus d’identifier les noms et les motifs de faces de certains étoilements du RTC intéressants pour le constructeur de modèles, cet article présente une approche générale à la nomenclature pratique qu’on Pert aisément appliquer aux étoilements en grande partie inexplorés des autres isoèdres convexes, comme par exemple les duaux des polyèdres archimédiens.

New concise notations identify the 226 fully sup ported (non-reentrant) stellations of a familiar thirty-faced isohedral solid, the rhombic triacontahedron Systematic methods of labeling are descrhed beginning with elements of the stellation diagram and ending with names of RTC stellations and their exposed facets. Two dimensioned properties of the stellation diagram are correlated with the three-dimensional properties of stellations. Besides identifying the names and facial patterns of some interesting RTC stellations for the model builder, this paper introduces a general approach to practical nomenclature which can be readily applied to the largely unexplored stellations of other convex isohedra, for example, the duals of the Archimedean polyhedra.
