Authors: Burillo López, Pedro; Frago Paños, Noé; Fuentes-González, Ramón
Abstract: First of all, in this paper we propose a family of fuzzy implication operators, which the generalised Luckasiewicz's one, and to analyse the impacts of Smets and Magrez properties on these operators. The result of this approach will be a characterisation of a proposed family of inclusion grade operators (in Bandler and Kohout's manner) that satisfies the axioms of Divyendu and Dogherty. Second, we propose a method to define fuzzy morphological operators (erosions and dilations). A family of fuzzy implication operators and the inclusion grade are the basis for this method.

Authors: Pescim, R. R.; Cordeiro, G. M.; Demétrio, C. G. B.; Ortega, E. M. M.; Nadarajah, S.
Abstract: Ng and Kotz (1995) introduced a distribution that provides g
reater flexibility to extremes. We define
and study a new class of distributions called the Kummer beta
generalized family to extend the
normal, Weibull, gamma and Gumbel distributions, among sev
eral other well-known distributions.
Some special models are discussed. The ordinary moments of a
ny distribution in the new family
can be expressed as linear functions of probability weighte
d moments of the baseline distribution.
We examine the asymptotic distributions of the extreme valu
es. We derive the density function
of the order statistics, mean absolute deviations and entro
pies. We use maximum likelihood
estimation to fit the distributions in the new class and illus
trate its potentiality with an application

Title: A note on the use of supply-use tables in impact analyses
Authors: Lenzen, Manfred; Rueda-Cantuche, José M.
Abstract: Little attention has so far been paid to the problems inheren
t in interpreting the meaning of results
from standard impact analyses using symmetric input-outpu
t tables. Impacts as well as drivers
of these impacts must be either of the product type or of the in
dustry type. Interestingly, since
supply-use tables distinguish products and industries, th
ey can cope with product impacts driven
by changes in industries, and vice versa. This paper contrib
utes in two ways. Firstly, the demand-
driven Leontief quantity model, both for industry-by-indu
stry as well as for product-by-product
tables, is formalised on the basis of supply-use tables, thu
s leading to impact multipliers, both for
industries and products. Secondly, we demonstrate how the s
upply-use formulation can improve
the incorporation of disparate satellite data into input-o
utput models, by offering both industry and
product representation. Supply-use blocks can accept any m
ix of industry and product satellite
data, as long as these are not overlapping

Authors: Muniz, Gisela; Golam Kibria, B. M.; Mansson, Kristofer Mansson; Shukur, Ghazi
Abstract: In this paper we review some existing and propose some new est
imators for estimating the ridge
parameter. All in all 19 different estimators have been stud
ied. The investigation has been carried
out using Monte Carlo simulations. A large number of differe
nt models have been investigated
where the variance of the random error, the number of variabl
es included in the model, the
correlations among the explanatory variables, the sample s
ize and the unknown coefficient vector
were varied. For each model we have performed 2000 replicati
ons and presented the results both
in term of figures and tables. Based on the simulation study, w
e found that increasing the number
of correlated variable, the variance of the random error and
increasing the correlation between
the independent variables have negative effect on the mean s
quared error. When the sample size
increases the mean squared error decreases even when the cor
relation between the independent
variables and the variance of the random error are large. In a

Title: Analysing visual receptive fields through generalised additive models with interactions
Authors: Rodríguez Álvarez, María Xosé; Cadarso-Suárez, Carmen; González, Francisco
Abstract: Visual receptive fields (RFs) are small areas of the visual fie
ld where a stimulus induces a re-
sponses of a particular neuron from the visual system. RFs ca
n be mapped using reverse cross-
correlation technique, which produces raw matrices contai
ning both spatial and temporal informa-
tion about the RF. Though this technique is frequently used i
n electrophysiological experiments,
it does not allow formal comparisons between RFs obtained un
der different experimental condi-
tions. In this paper we propose the use of Generalised Additi
ve Models (GAM) including com-
plex interactions, to obtain smoothed spatio-temporal ver
sions of RFs. Moreover, the proposed
methodology also allow for the statistical comparisons of t
he RFs obtained across various experi-
mental conditions. Data analysed here derive from studies o
f neurons’ activity in the visual cortex
of behaving monkeys. Our results suggest that the GAM-based
technique proposed in this paper
can be a flexible and powerful tool for assessing receptive fie

Title: Iterative beam search for simple assembly line balancing with a fixed number of work stations
Authors: Blum, Christian
Abstract: The simple assembly line balancing problem (SALBP) concern
s the assignment of tasks with
pre-defined processing times to work stations that are arran
ged in a line. Hereby, precedence
constraints between the tasks must be respected. The optimi
zation goal of the SALBP-2 variant
of the problem concerns the minimization of the so-called cy
cle time, that is, the time in which the
tasks of each work station must be completed. In this work we p
ropose to tackle this problem with
an iterative search method based on beam search. The propose
d algorithm is able to generate
optimal solutions, respectively the best upper bounds, for
283 out of 302 test cases. Moreover,
for 9 further test cases the algorithm is able to improve the c

Authors: Antonini, Alessandra
Una vez estructurada toda la metodología de análisis para la ciudad histórico-turística, esta se aplica al caso de la ciudad italiana de Alghero, situada en la isla de Sardegna.; This study proposes to analyze the problems of urban sustainability, focusing on the case of tourist-historic cities, with the overall goal of creating a system of indicators of sustainability in tourist-historic cities small or medium sized can be applied at the municipal level to assess and monitor urban sustainability in relation to tourism.
Based on the construction of a synthetic view of the problem in analysis, we propose the creation of reference models tourist-historic cities able to take into account, among other factors, the physical structure of the city and analyzing the variation of impacts on function of the spatial organization. This produces types of city, which can be useful when a first analysis of a real case study.
Once structured categories, identifies important steps in the analysis of tourist-historic city, comparing these to the city categories created above, generates a classification system of cities across different categories, based on the results indicators.

The following article aims to estimate the environmental impact of gold mining by the Water Foot Print indicator in the town of Segovia (Antioquia), which allows not only to analize the actual consumption of water in the stages of extraction and processing of gold, but also to quantify the degree of pollution generated mainly by mercury discharges. In this first approach will be considered the Blue and Grey Water Foot Print. The results become a tool for decision making in the town, as they allow direct the public and private actions to the activities that are affecting the water resource.

La metodología como tal queda descrita para ser aplicada a cualquier otro proyecto.; Correct decision making in project management takes into account all of the components and the whole life-cycle of the project, but primarily focuses on all of the stakeholders. An example (deciding between alternative homes to buy) shows the integration of economic, functional, social and environmental requirements. In order to score alternatives, costs, vulnerability, location, aesthetics, natural resources, sustainability, etc. are considered. It is also justified, in an indirect way, that the proper application of the methodology integrates agents, lessening the possibility of conflict and achieving greater efficiency in management. The methodology, as described, is ready to be applied to any project.
