Abstract
This work aims to make a comparative study of the different clauses that compose the
standard contracts of civil engineering and construction projects: ECC (Engineering and
Construction Contract) belonging to the family of NEC3 contracts (Third edition of the New
Engineering Contract) created by ICE (Institution of Civil Engineers), and the standard
contract Conditions of Contracts for Construction, called the Red Book, created by FIDIC
(Fédération Internationale des Ingénieurs-Conseils), which is one of the contracts more used
in the important civil engineering projects.
In addition to the comparative study is intended to make a general introduction to both types
of contract families, explaining its origin, its evolution and its uses worldwide. Finally, the
objective is to explain the specific case of the contract for the Victoria Station project in
central London (Victoria Station Upgrade) with specific situations related to the track of the
guidelines set by the NEC3-ECC contract.
