Abstract
The lack or poor distribution of energy is one of the most serious problems that is suffered by a quarter of the world's population today. There still exist a violation of a fundamental right of humanity, accessing energy services, reducing the potential for development and economic growth. With the aim to solve this problem, the NGO ITDG - Soluciones Prácticas has developed several prototypes of low-power turbines, installing them in several Latin American countries, obtaining good results but with some shortcomings. At the same time, GRECDH, CITCEA and ISF have derived several working groups to carry out the improvements needed by the system. Particularly, one of the needs of most interest is a monitoring system, allowing to get a recording of the relevant parameters of the operation of the wind turbine. In this way it is possible to have a database that suffice to characterize the wind turbine, essential to optimize its design. The aim of this projecte is therefore the study and design of a system for acquiring and recording data, called DataLogger. We want to design a functional and versatile system that can be useful in other industrial applications, creating a highly flexible system, adaptable to different scenarios. Importantly, it must also have standard dimensions and low cost. The software developed must be standarised code and Open Source, with a graphical interface that allows user interaction with the device. We have identified the needs, solutions that are currently on the market, and finally defined a specific proposal that meets the system requirements. The methodology used in the design of DataLogger consisted of three phases: information research, development and testing of the final solution to verify proper operation. The device consists of a control board, an auxiliary conditioning board and auxiliary sensing boards. The control board is a commercial system chosen for its low cost and their capabilities and the other boards have been designed ni order to meet the specifications of the project. During the design process, specific parts of the circuit simulations have been made to validate its operation, but the entire system has been verified by laboratory tests. Thus, tests were carried out to ensure the acquisition of the ADC resolution, as well as a verification of communication protocols for different peripherals. Finally, the system was tested as a whole in a real scenario.
