Abstract
The huge research effort, not interrupted since 1970, into the fundamental ideas
known as the Relational Model, has borne a large number of improvements in the
database world, mainly owing to the formal tools, of proven utility, provided by its
theoretical basis. However, there is no such thing as a single, clearly defined, rock
solid Relational Model. In this paper we look backwards to learn from past errors. It
can be useful today, when some of the attitudes of the
