Title: A Scientific Cloud for Data Centers Abstract: Cloud Computing is emerging as a promising successor of Grid Computing. It promises to sideline the various shortcomings of Grid Computing to provide a computing environment which is more reliable and flexible. This concept is also known as "Platform as a Service" and establishes the first practical steps to transform computing into an utility. Based on previous technologies, Cloud Computing will probably transform our current view of how we deal with Information Technologies. This project aims to establish the bases to develop a Scientific Cloud in the Steinbuch Computer Center (SCC) of the Karlsrhue Institue of Technology. It introduces the Scientific Cloud concept as well as shows how to build up a Scientific Cloud by adapting and merging many existing technologies. This includes exploration of the Globus Tookit as a frontend and OpenNebula as a backend. Upon construction, this project will help scientist to have their own working environment in the Cloud while relying on SCC's data centers.
