This project presents the creation of the Future Air Navigation System (FANS) training program and the consequent design of a graphic interface that enables the aircrew to become familiar with the data link (CPDLC) communication systems. First, an electronic course (e-learning) will be created in order to stand out FANS' general characteristics and its inherent concepts: communication, surveillance and air traffic management. Moreover, the avionic system involved in communications, will be detailed using illustrative examples of the data link message exchange between the pilots and the air traffic controller. The second goal of this project will be creating a graphic interface that will simulate and support the DCDU and MCDU systems for the CPDLC communication using the developing software LabVIEW from National Instruments. Then, a hardware platform will be created simulating a keyboard with the intention to provide more realism to the previously designed graphic interface and liken the real-life communication systems onboard or available in the Flight Simulation Training Devices (FSTD). Finally, the designed interface will be tested in order to validate that the objectives have been achieved and at the end, the main steps of the course certification approval process will be generally exposed.
