Abstract
This report describes the work carried out as part of an EC-funded project called RICE-GUARD, which is developing a novel rice blast prediction tool based on an in-field wireless sensor network. Existing systems for forecasting rice blast have been developed from meteorological data obtained from existing weather stations often placed far from rice fields or from stations which sensors are above the canopy and which relation with actual meteorological conditions that can result in leaf wetness are uncertain. RICE-GUARD aims at measuring meteorological parameters in and above the canopy in real time thus overcoming that problem.
