Preliminary empirical study of spectral nonparametric detectors

The detection in the presence of white additive noise of a sinusoid with known frequency and unknown phase is considered. The detector configuration includes a spectral estimator, a rank order extractor and a modified Savage’s detector; this structure provides a CFAR behaviour. A Montecarlo simulation was carried out and the detection probability was computed for several spectral estimators (periodiogram, MEM, Kumaresan- Tufts). We conclude that the periodiogram gives the highest signal detection capability.
