dc.description.abstractThe aim of this project is to reduce as much as possible the distraction of the driver while driving, when he is using the car's infotainment. Every year, unfortunately, near 17.000 accidents are produced on the road due to the human factor (distractions). Thus, reducing these, it would decrease the number of crashes on the road and, with that, the human, sanitary and environmental costs. There is a clear need of establishing these bases, since in a close future, on the automotive world, the driver will have a higher information volume to manage and, this management must be done adequately for the correct incorporation of the cutting edge technologies on the vehicle without having negative effects. In this project it has been studied the current normative, both the European and the global one, for the HMI's design implemented in the vehicles. After that, the current technology for the interaction with this HMI is analyzed and, thinking on the future, it is evaluated the best communication channel between the driver and his car. To conclude the project, and after analyzing different communication ways, some conclusions have been reached, for instance the interaction with the radio functionalities is better through the physical commands on the steering wheel, on the other hand, the navigation functionalities are better controlled through voice. Furthermore, the implementation based on gestures is proposed for several functions. Finally, Natural Language Understanding (NLU) emerges as the optimal solution for most of the cases, yet it has not been deeply developed in this project since it was out of the scope.
