Desenvolupament i aplicació de tècniques adequades pel tractament de de dades composicionals i espacials.
La particular naturalesa de les dades composicionals i espacials requereix mètodes i tècniques estadístiques específiques. En les línies de recerca teòriques es treballa des de la generalització de distribucions pròpies fins al desenvolupament de models lineals generalitzats i estructurals. Els balanços principals i els mètodes d’agrupació són eines específiques de reducció de la dimensió, les quals s'apliquen una vegada les dades han estat preprocessades amb tècniques com el tractament de valors en la frontera de l’espai mostral. Aquest conjunt de mètodes s'utilitzen en estudis en altres camps del coneixement, dels quals sorgeixen reptes que estimulen el progrés de les línies de recerca. Les activitats de recerca es completen amb accions per a la formació de nous investigadors, la transferència i la difusió; entre les quals en destaquem: el paquet estadístic propi CoDaPack, el curs CoDaCourse, el taller internacional CoDaWork, i el domini d’internet CoDaWeb.
