The main goal of this project is to design and develop mobile applications for Android devices using the programming tool MIT App Inventor. MIT App Inventor is a programming tool based on blocks that allows everyone to start programming, designing and building fully functional applications for Android devices without the necessity of having previous knowledge of any programming language. The first section of the project is a study of the tool used to design the mobile applications, called MIT App Inventor: Its history, what it can offer to people, the security and the copyright of the mobile applications created and information about other similar existing tools. The second section consists of the development of a more complex application and with educational purposes. The third section is based on the design and development of four applications, simpler than the previous one, which include a complete programming tutorial. These applications can be adapted to creating a workshop for students from primary to secondary school. In the next section we present the pilot tests of the workshop we have made using the mobile applications developed on the previous section of the project. There have been two tests, one for the “Girls on ICT day” and the other one for the 4th of ESO students from the INS Pius Font I Quer. Finally, in the last section we provide a study of the advantages of using the programming tool MIT App Inventor.
