This paper presents two novel mechanisms aimed at improving the packet transmission delay distribution and the channel usage efficiency of wireless ad hoc networks when using the DQMAN (distributed queuing MAC protocol for mobile ad hoc networks) at the MAC layer. Computer simulations show that new proposals increase the channel usage efficiency up to one order of magnitude, and reduce the mean transmission delay standard deviation by a factor of three.
