In this work, a simple and inexpensive method has been developed to determine the amount of salt contained in a salted raw hide. Two different systems of analysis have been tested. In both methods, salt is removed by stirring the hide with deionized water and analysing the resulting salt bath. The first method is based on the measurement of the chloride amount in the salt bath by the Mohr method. The second method is based on measuring the density of the salt bath. The second method has yielded very good results. Also, it does not require the use of chemical reagents and the necessary equipment is common in all tanneries
