Abstract
Next project analyse the behaviour of two supercapacitors in series connected to a load, in this case, a LED Matrix, to supply the extra current needed when the power supply is not enough.
The series connection of the supercapacitors makes necessary the analysis of their behaviour during the charging process since it is possible an overcharge in some of them. In order to do this, it was used two techniques that guarantee a voltage balance between both elements: one passive and the other one active. The former consists of connecting in parallel to the supercapacitor a resistor to remove the extra energy. On the other hand, the latter, instead of using a resistor, uses diodes, in particular, three, to limit the voltage.
With the goal to select the best technique for the described application, it was made different tests with distinct initial voltages in the supercapacitors. For the passive technique, it was made measurements with different resistances. Once obtained the results and selected the most suitable methods of each technique, it was connected in parallel the load and analysed which one of them adjusts better.
