Abstract
The objective of this project is implement and validate a platform onboard an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) able to obtain performance and operation parameters of a Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) system. To reach the proposed objective, first of all, a study of the Bluetooth Low Energy technology has been done, in aspects like the message's structure and the protocol stack. Then, an opportunistic data collection system based on Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV), using Bluetooth Low Energy technology has been designed, implemented and validated. This system is conformed by a ground station, a PC with a BLE USB module (Bluegiga BLED112), for which a user interface that allows to obtain useful data about the system performance has been developed, and a beacon that will be onboard a UAV. This beacon is conformed of a 3D printed box, and contains an Arduino, a BLE long range module (BLuegiga BLE121LR) (Bluetooth Low Energy Long Range module used), GPS receiver, and batteries. For this beacon, also the code programming of the different parts that allows the correct communication between the involved devices, has been implemented. Moreover, the platform (quadcopter) that holds the onboard generator and transmitter data system, has been mixed properly with the Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) technology, allowing generating marks from the radio control transmitter. Finally, all the field tests have been designed and done, to give extrapolable and representative data about the Bluetooth Low Energy performance technology, in this scenario to validate the complete system.
