The Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI) was created in 1999 by UNESCO, the United Nations University (UNU) and the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), which hosts its secretariat and presidency. It was founded after UNESCO's World Conference on Higher Education of 1998 to give continuity to and facilitate the implementation of its main decisions.

The network, composed of 180 members from 68 countries, includes the UNESCO Chairs in Higher Education, higher education institutions, research centres and networks related to innovation and the social commitment of higher education. In each of the five world regions, GUNI has a regional office representing the network.

GUNI's mission is to contribute to the strengthening of higher education's role in society, through the reform and innovation of higher education policies across the world, under a vision of public service, relevance and social responsibility.

Here you will find several contents coming from the Report Higher Education in the World , edited by GUNI and published in English, Chinese and Spanish and also contents and proceedings from the International Barcelona Conference on Higher Education , where the Report is usually presented and debated.
