La construcción de una atmósfera: Proyecto de Diana Piera para una casa en Begur. ETSAB PVI

Abstract

Ever since I’ve been teaching I try that students avoid tosimply find the answers to their questions. I am interestedin establishing a dialogue between their concerns and issuesrelated to architecture. Doing architecture means toask questions to oneself and find, through discussion andreflection -in this case with teachers- an own answer. Theproject lies within us, in our knowledge, our ability to observethe world with sense and sensitivity.

In our design studio at ETSAB we work this way. The projectpublished here is designed by student Diana Piera. ForDiana the rocks, the twisting road, the grove forest, thelogs, the treetops, the shadows, the sky, talk about thedepth of the pine forest that highlights the character of theplace. The house is a continuous outdoor space betweenpines establishing different relationships similar to those ofthe forest; being under the forest, being among the crownsor being above the trees to enjoy the far-off views. Thegoal of this exercise is to build an atmosphere, which aimsto interpret the site through the search of its character, itsessence. A place to remember.
