This Master thesis consists of an investigation about the fire protection codes in buildings in order to study the differences between the Danish and the Spanish code about fire protection in buildings. During this investigation, all the regulations, calculations and simulations are applied and used in a Danish existing building. The building chosen is the 116 building at the Danmarks Tekniske Universitet. The building is classified as an educational and as administrative centre with classrooms, offices, auditoriums and some services for the students like toilets, dining room, computer rooms... The project is divided into different sections. During the first part of the study, the different features of the building are investigated in order to describe the existing building. The second part consists of applying the Spanish code in this building and sees all the changes that are necessary to do in order to achieve this regulation and then apply these changes. Finally, different scenarios are taken into account to prove that the evacuation time is less than the critical conditions achieved. The last part consists of simulating with modelling software the most important scenarios and checks the results obtained in the previous part. There are two different types of modelling, the fire and the evacuation modelling. Finally, it must be concluded with the differences obtained along the project.
