dc.description.abstractResearch on carbon materials is, nowadays, the most developed field within the nanotechnology. Graphene and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are the materials studied the most in this domain due to their astonishing mechanical, thermal, structural and electrical properties. They are expected to be the materials used mostly in the future thanks to their appealing properties. A lot of research for the synthesis of new advanced composite materials in a wide range of applications is developed. Nevertheless, the research and study of these materials has started only 15 years ago, so there is still a long path to go through. Before starting to think about direct applications of CNTs, basic research needs to be done in order to understand the fundamental properties. A very good tool to study CNTs is the Raman Spectroscopy, which has been used in order to characterise them. It has been observed that the laser used in Raman Spectroscopy can damage the CNTs. In this project, by using laser during Raman measurements, thermal properties of CNTs has been studied at low power density (LPD) and high power density (HPD). These studies will help for a better understanding of thermal properties of CNTs as well as future methods of purification and functionalization.
