dc.description.abstract | It was during the decade of 1970’s when the interest for searching and exploit the solar energy came up as an alternative, clean safe and unlimited source in contrast with the nuclear energy, coal, oil and its chemical byproducts, their environmental impact and the price speculation in international markets. This concept of solar access is born in the USA as an effective way to legally protect the availability of light, the capture and the proper use of the solar energy by the owners of a building in order to guarantee free access to energy and sunlight not only in the present time but also in the future. This work is made up of two parts; the first one presents the importance of solar energy and precedents of the concept of solar access. The second part presents a comparative study of the solar access by using the descriptive method between Jerusalem, Israel (31.8º North) and Bogota, Colombia (4.5 º North); this chapter discusses the link between urban form, road profiles, obstructions and solar access in the mentioned cities. |
