During the last six months, I have been doing an internship at Schlumberger. I worked as an industrialization engineer for electronic boards. It was a big challenge for me because I hadn’t any experience in electronic prototyping neither in the oil industry. During preparation at the beginning of my internship I was reading internal documents which explain the eDFM (electrical design for manufacturing) job. I had difficulties to read them because of the large number of internal abbreviations and because I didn’t know how Schlumberger tools take measures of the oil well. To overcome these difficulties I could always refer to my internship tutor. Also, during the first months of the internship, we did lots of the tasks together. Thanks to that, I learnt how to carry them out. From July on I began to become more autonomous. In addition to the first electronic board, I was in charge of a second one so I could apply what I had learnt beforehand. In the meantime, we began the design of the cable assemblies that interconnect the different boards. During two weeks, the eDFM team analyzed the different wire assemblies and I learnt how to prepare their specification documents which I did when the vacation period started. I also was in charge of the follow-up of the manufacturing of three prototypes. I have really appreciated that the team trusted me to accomplish the tasks. After the vacations, it was time to validate all the cable assembly files in order to send them to our contract manufacturer for quotation. To assure an optimal comprehension of the files, meetings with the subcontractor had been carried out. Another of my tasks was to prepare one board for testing. It was very interesting because it allowed me to see eDFM tasks that are typical of projects at an advanced stage. At the moment, one month before the end of my internship, there is a lot of work to do. We have received a new prototype and two more boards have to be routed in the following weeks.
