dc.description.abstract | [ANGLÈS] Optical communications have been rapidly evolved over the last decades. This is the reason why new methods have had to be found in order to increase the capacity of the fiber. In this thesis work mainly from Spatial Division Multiplexing (SDM) technique is going to be shown, since it has taken a huge step in terms of capacity on the fiber during these past few years. This technique allows to send different signals over the same fiber taking advantage of the spatial dimension of this fiber, being able to send different orthogonal signals at the same time. SDM is generally applied over Few-Mode Fiber (FMF) or Multi-Core Fiber (MCF). Due to the strong coupling that this technique presents, the digital signal processing is more complicated than usual since the equalizer is based on the Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) technique that helps reverting, in the receiver, the coupling suffered during transmission. This Digital Signal Processing (DSP) has been evolving with the pass of the time, starting in the Time-Domain (TD) for, now, work in the Frequency Domain (FD); thus achieving, during the development of this thesis, a high degree of maturity and reliability in the results. The critical steps will be, from one side, the equalizer, capable to work with different algorithms at the same time (LMS, MMA i CMA); and from the other side, the phase recovery, where a new method based on the Maximum Likelihood algorithm is presented. Finally, different results are going to be presented which will clearly demonstrate that the SDM technique still has a bright future to explore. Thus, new records in the spectral efficiency field (32 bit/s/Hz), overcoming for the first time the Single-Mode Fiber (SMF) limit described by Shannon (20 bit/s/Hz); and the maximum transmitted distance (1.500 km) using 1 transmission channel are presented to demonstrate, once again, what this promising technique can offer. |
