Influence of alternative fuels (FAME, ETHANOL...) on emission levels of cars

Abstract

Nowadays the world is becoming aware about the big problem there is with the pollution and the differents ways to face this problem. For this reason, in Europe and EEUU there are appearing news biofuels and alternatives fuels to help reduce the emissions from the transport sector. This Masther Thesis tries to be useful to calculate the alternative fuels factors; a ratio which compares the emissions from the normal fuels such as petrol and diesel with alternative fuels such as FAME, Ethanol, CNG, LPG, ect.... This ratios are helpful to take conclusions about who and how to reduce the emissions from the vehicles using one or other fuel. Furthermore with these alternative factors and out of the emissions factor there are in HBEFA, it is possible to know the emissions factors for alternative fuels. The emissions factors are a specific emission in g/km for all current vehicles categories (PC, LDV, HDV, buses and motor cycles), each divided into different categories, for a wide variety of traffic situations.
