The aim of the thesis work is the modeling and experimental characterization of a stepper motor and its driver, to be used in a solar power plant to actuate the solar field. The very high load torque, required to move a large number of reflectors, and the very low sun tracking velocity make the design of the actuation system quite peculiar. The model of the actuation system will be developed in the Modelica/Dymola environtment while experiments will be possibly performed on a suitable experimental setup.
