The rescarch is racused on scismic ond flood risk in Algicrs, and cspccill lly in Bah El Oued neighborhood whel'e flood and seismic phcnomcna are important and can gcncrntc disaster. Wc are expccling futurc cvents in Bab El Oued as an carthquakc of7.5 on Richter scale and another Oood disaster as the olle that \Ve had in 101~ November 200 1.Thc fault of Khair El Din is Ihe most dangcrous one in Algiers. It can genemte acccleration of3oo to 800 gal and can produee an intcnsity of 8 or 9 under MSK scale and an important dcstruction of construetions in Bah EL Oued. This fault can also cause landslidcs in Ihe Wcst ofthe city. A rccent study providcs a scenario of disaster thal supposcs Ihat 33% ofbuildings and 33% ofhouscs wi ll bedcstroycd by the ncxt carthquake gcnernled by Khair El Din faull, and it c)(peclS lo cause 500 dealh, 2200 injurcd, 28000 homelcss for a population of 87600 habitant. The name of "Bab El Oued" means "Rivel"'s Door", it c)(plains the situalion ofthe ncighborhood rcgarding the Oood risk. The most importan! evcnt ever happened \Vas in 2001, \Vhen the river "OuedM'Kessel" took back its original place and dcstroyed evcrything things thaL had becn built in its original way to Ihe Mediterranean sea. The most impol1ant urban mistakc tha! cause Ihis disaster \Vas the faCI that a speed\Vay had beeu built on Oucd m'Kessel river bed, and also Lhe situation ofTrioley market that was on the oliginal way ofthe river and under Ihe Trioley Bridge. Even though the authority applicd solutions there is slill the need for urban modifications that we call "Urban Acupuneturc". To reduce thc impacTs ofthese phenomcna, wc have to establish a stralcgy ofrisk prevenlion and managemenL for Bab El Oued and we suggcst the fo llowing mcasures: ¿ 1'0 crcate risk maps and lO cstablish rcsponse and cvacuation plans. ¿ To build network ofmonitOling and alcI1ing and 10 facilitate decision-making processcs. ¿ To crcate stratcgy of intcrvcnlion and cvacualion.
