Raymond, Jean-Luc
In an article reviewed earlier in Structural Topology, E.D. Bolker and B. Roth ((Bolker 1980), (Whiteley 1979)) put together a generic classification of complete bipartite graphs in R2 and R’. Their reasoning was based on calculating the dimension of the space of stresses for a realization of a complete bipartite graph in a given space. The classification which they established applies only to R2 and R3. The text which follows is a generalization of their results to spaces of higher dimension. We can establish the generic classification of structures built over
complete bipartite graphs with regard to their rigid behavior in a fixed ambient space of dimension greater than or equal to 2.

This article is in two sections: first, on linear dependence of lines, and second, on the rigidity of spatial frameworks. Our purpose is to define a methodology which will permit us to investigate a spatial framework, to determine its rigidity or non-rigidity. The frameworks in question consist of bars (line segments) joining two rigid bodies, the bars being attached to the bodies at universal joints. In other words, the framework forms a
link between two rigid bodies, and it is a question of determining if this linkage is rigid, or else is non rigid and permits either a mechanical or infinitesimal relative motion of the two bodies.

Emmer, Michele
An introduction to this first series appeared in a previous article [1]. As the general idea of the new series of movies is exactly the same, this series needs no further introduction.

I’hexagone régulier, c’est-à-dire un hexagone régulier quadridimensionnel? It is easily understood that the Cdimensional analogues of the regular triangle, square, and regular pentagon (in this paper, all are composed of only edges and have no portion of 2-space) are the regular tetrahedron, cube, and regular dodecahedron (in this paper, all are composed of only faces and have no portion of 3-space) respectively. Then, which polyhedron is the Cdimensional analogue of the regular hexagon, i.e. Cdimensional regular hexagon? If this riddle is solved, we can see a 4-dimensional snowflake, honeycomb, pencil, etc.

A graphic adventure in two-, three- and four-dimensional fantastic worlds is undertaken in this book, using polygons (or 2-polytopes), polyhedra (or 3-polytopes), and polytopes (or Cpolytopes). The topics extend over many epochs and countries, with particular emphasis on the past in Japan. The stars are Plato and polygons, Kepler and polyhedra, and Fuller and polytopes.
