Abstract: Los modelos basados en agentes (ABMs) describen a los individuos o&#xD;
partes que configuran un sistema como entidades autónomas y discretas, y focalizan toda&#xD;
su atención en caracterizar estas partes (agentes) mediante reglas de comportamiento,&#xD;
permitiendo la interacción entre ellas y con el entorno en el que se hallan. Se presenta el&#xD;
material docente diseñado para una actividad a realizar de forma autónoma en aula&#xD;
informática, centrada en el modelo “Autumn” que se encuentra en la plataforma NetLogo&#xD;
(de acceso libre desde la Web). Se analizan los resultados obtenidos con su&#xD;
implementación en los estudios de grado en Ingeniería de Biosistemas de la Universitat&#xD;
Politècnica de Catalunya.</description>

Abstract: One important factor to be considered in the process of algebrization of mathematics is the emergence of symbolic language in the seventeenth century. Focussing on three works, In Artem analyticen Isagoge (1591) by François Viète (1540-1603); Cursus Mathematicus (1634-1637-1642) by Pierre Hérigone (1580-1643) and Geometriae Speciosae Elementa (1659) by Pietro Mengoli (1626/7-1686), in this article we analyse two relevant aspects of symbolic language: the significance of the notation in the symbolic language and the role of Hérigone’s new symbolic method. This analysis allows us to better understand the role played by this circulation of ideas in the formative process of symbolic language in mathematics.</description>

Abstract: In this paper we analyze some aspects of capstone projects done by teachers during the academic years 2009-2010 and 2010-2011 in the course «History of Mathematics and Science for Secondary Education» that was part of the training plan of in-service teachers of the Institute of Education Sciences at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. These capstone projects consist in designing an activity related to the introduction of the history of mathematics in the classroom, that teachers should have implemented and where they should have emphasized basic skills that students are intended to achieve. The aim of these analyses is to bring new elements of reflection for helping in the design and implementation in the classroom of resources on history of mathematics, which should be well integrated into the curriculum.</description>

Abstract: We analyse the five most common ovens that manufactured coal gas and their implementation in gasworks in Spain. This implementation was divided into five periods according to the degree of development. Data are based on technical statistics, and on documents obtained from gas companies. The statistics were compiled in the 1940s by the Francoist Trade Union of water, gas and electricity. The documents were obtained from the archive of the Gas Natural Foundation in Barcelona. Although we cannot determine the entire evolution, it is possible to obtain a rough idea of the period during which coal was used as a raw material.</description>

Abstract: Modelling is a necessary tool to represent, analyse and discuss aspects or ideas&#xD;
related to complex systems. With this in mind, teaching science based on the elaboration of&#xD;
models is widely accepted in the academic community. A relatively new methodology of&#xD;
modelling exists with a different philosophy and perspective from the classic and continuous&#xD;
models used up usually, the so-called agent-based models (ABMs). The general aim of the&#xD;
work is to make this kind of discrete modelling well-known, so that ABMs may be&#xD;
incorporated progressively into the academic curricula, complementing other existing&#xD;
modelling strategies.</description>

Abstract: L’u de març de 1860, Josep Oriol Bernadet va llegir de torn una memòria a la&#xD;
Reial Acadèmia de Ciències i Arts de Barcelona titulada Sobre los sistemas generales de&#xD;
enseñanza en la qual es plantejava de donar resposta a unes preguntes que giraven al&#xD;
voltant de tres temes principals, que afectaven l’ensenyament secundari i professional&#xD;
en aquell moment: quines qualitats havia de tenir un professor? Quines eren les facultats&#xD;
que calia potenciar en l’alumne? I quines eren les necessitats requerides per dur a&#xD;
terme un bon sistema d’ensenyament? La vigència dels continguts i el fet que aquest&#xD;
text es conservi en forma manuscrita i no hagi estat publicat encara, malgrat que des&#xD;
de la seva presentació hagin transcorregut 150 anys, ens ha animat a presentar-lo en&#xD;
aquest article. A més, el fet que l’autor morís el 30 de juliol d’aquell mateix any confereix&#xD;
a aquest manuscrit el valor de ser gairebé el document de les darreres voluntats&#xD;
de l’autor com a docent. Per això hem pensat que ben bé podria ser considerat com el&#xD;
seu testament acadèmic.</description>

Abstract: The aurora borealis is an intense light in latitudes near the poles. It is known as the&#xD;
aurora australis in the southern hemisphere. An aurora is arch-shaped and undergoes&#xD;
intense colour changes. It is often accompanied by a sound resembling that of silk being&#xD;
rubbed and emits an odour characteristic of ozone. Although an aurora usually occurs in&#xD;
high latitudes, it sometimes takes place in lower latitudes.&#xD;
This paper focuses on the report made by Narcís Vidal i Campderrós (1792-1876), who&#xD;

aurora australis in the southern hemisphere. An aurora is arch-shaped and undergoes&#xD;
intense colour changes. It is often accompanied by a sound resembling that of silk being&#xD;
rubbed and emits an odour characteristic of ozone. Although an aurora usually occurs in&#xD;
high latitudes, it sometimes takes place in lower latitudes.&#xD;
