Abstract: Carbon nanotubes (CNTs), since their discovery by Lijima (S. Lijima, Nature, 354:56-58&#xD;
(1991)), are considered a new generation of reinforcement. Their "nano" size structure makes them&#xD;
potentially free of defects, which provides them with excellent physical properties. There are two main&#xD;
nanotube types: single wall nanotubes (SWCNTs), which are made of a single wall tube; and multiwall&#xD;
nanotubes (MWCNTs), which consist in several concentric walls, one inside the other.&#xD;
A key factor for the reinforcement efficiency in a composite it is the interface bonding between the&#xD;
CNTs and the matrix. This work presents a new constitutive model to predict the mechanical performance&#xD;
of composites made of a thermo-plastic matrix reinforced with CNTs. The model takes into account&#xD;
explicitly the mechanical contribution of the interface between the matrix and the CNTs (F. Otero et. al.,&#xD;
Comp Structures, 94:2920-2930 (2012)). The constitutive model is based in the mixing theory, which&#xD;
obtains the composite performance from the response of each constituent component, each one simulated&#xD;
with its own constitutive law. The model has been implemented into an in-house FEM code: PLCd.&#xD;
As an application example, this code is used to predict the mechanical properties of a straight beam&#xD;
with different material configurations. In this case, a viscoelastic constitutive model is proposed for the&#xD;
polymeric matrix. The viscous response within the elastic range of the materials is studied. This response&#xD;
shows a high capacity of energy dissipation in composites reinforced with MWCNTs.</description>

Abstract: El crecimiento de las energías renovables, y en concreto de la energía eólica marina,&#xD;
propician el desarrollo de herramientas que permitan un estudio completo del aerogenerador (‘Offshore’). Hasta el momento, se ha dedicado un gran esfuerzo al desarrollo de códigos que permitan un estudio profundo de los mismos. En este trabajo se presenta la herramienta FAST&#xD;
Lognoter, resultado de la integración de otras dos: por un lado del código FAST (Fatigue,Aerodynamics, Structures and Turbulence desarrollado por NREL, http://wind.nrel.gov), que es una completa herramienta para la simulación del cálculo aeroelástico, capaz de predecir las cargas extremas y de fatiga de  aerogeneradores de 2 y 3 palas, y por el otro de Lognoter&#xD;
(desarrollado por Compass IS, http://www.compassis.com), una aplicación de propósito general para la gestión y creación de formularios en Ingeniería. La integración de las dos aplicaciones ha dado lugar a una herramienta completa y versátil, que se valida en este trabajo mediante casos&#xD;
documentados en la bibliografía.</description>

Abstract: Many European countries require the skippers of a pleasure craft to be able to provide evidence of their competence. The pleasure craft operator card or boating license permits people operate a pleasure craft. One of the requirements of this license is intended to decrease the number of boat accidents.&#xD;
This paper analysis the regulation related on recreational boat licensing of some European Union (EU) members. As a result of this study, no uniformity at European Union in terms of the requirements for sailing in pleasure boats can be proven. It is also important to note that requirements for&#xD;
obtaining the licenses and the personal training of each future skipper are different depending on the member state of the European Union. So this diversity of training criteria should be regulated and standardized equity for all member states.&#xD;
The main purpose of this paper is to make clear that in the European Union there is a lack of coordination in this area,&#xD;
highlighting the differences training patterns depending on the member state in which the skipper has obtained the license and indicate the need to unify the training and licensing for recreational boating.</description>

In a composite, one the most important factor is the interfacial tension between matrix and reinforcement. In general, the loads in a composite structure are introduced through the matrix and then are transferred to the reinforcement through the interface [5]. Therefore, the interface can be defined as the region surrounding the reinforcement where this stress transfer takes place. The properties of the composite depend on the properties of this regíon and its ability to transfer the load efficiently.&#xD;
This work proposes a new formulation to predict the mechanical properties of nanotube-reinforced composites. The formulation is based on the mixing theory [6]. It obtains the properties of the&#xD;
composite from the mechanical performance of its constitutive materials: matrix, carbon-nanotube and the interface that bonds both of them.</description>

Abstract: We present two different methods for measuring waves from the information provided by the speed log meter onboard. The first method processes data in the time domain, and is based in the measurement of the standard deviation of the voltage signal period at the transducer output. The second method is based in the measurement of the -3dB bandwidth of the frequency peaks in the spectral domain. Our results show a Lorentzian widening of the spectrum due to the effect of waves similar to the effect of jitter in electrical oscillators. As a predictable phenomenon, this work can lead to the design of new low-cost wave measurement systems and enhanced autopilot systems.</description>

Abstract: This paper is going to describe the design process of a simulator that assesses the costs of different means of transport. The evaluation not only will be done regarding the internal costs but also the external&#xD;
costs that will be translated to environmental costs, based on existing databases. The paper shows the development&#xD;
carried out to create this simulator and analyse all components of the logistical chain, i.e. port operation costs, road haulage costs and maritime leg costs. The simulation results have been validated with&#xD;
real data of actual maritime routes to check its reliability. As a conclusion, the costs simulator permits assess costs of new maritime trade routes comparing them with road transport.</description>

Abstract: This paper identifies weaknesses and opportunities in current Ecobono formulas (ecological bonus given to Short Sea Shipping users due to maritime transport lower externalities) using a SWOT analysis and presents an alternative European Ecobono. Among major findings we reached are the facts that weaknesses produced or inherent to current formulas as unfair competition between road carriers and budget limitation for the enforcement would be eliminated in case of applying a European alternative. The conclusion derived from the study brings out the idea that it is not possible to achieve collective European objectives by means of measures applied by individual member states.</description>
