Authors: Pons Peregort, Olga; Calvet Puig, Maria Dolors; Tura Solvas, Marta; Muñoz Illescas, Cristina

The frequency of the dyadic influence tactics according to communication media

Title: The frequency of the dyadic influence tactics according to communication media
Authors: Fernández Alarcón, Vicenç; Simó Guzmán, Pep; Enache, Cristina Mihaela; Sallán Leyes, José María
Abstract: One of the most important determinants of managerial effectiveness in achieving organisational objectives is the success in influencing subordinates, lateral peers and supervisors through influence tactics. However, little attention has been paid to the use of a communication medium in the context of influence tactics. Our objective is to study the frequency of these dyadic influence tactics on diverse communication media. The study involves a questionnaire-based survey conducted on Spanish post-graduate students who had been working in medium-sized or large companies during the last 2 years or more. The results suggest that the richness of the medium explains most similarities and differences in the frequency of influence tactics for different communication media. Furthermore, in the study of hard influence tactics in communication media with similar richness, it is necessary to introduce social aspects and the level of surveillance in order to explain it fully. This study helps managers to understand the relationships between influence tactics and the use of communication media in order to improve their communication effectiveness.

Authors: Garriga Garzón, Federico; Rajadell Carreras, Manuel; García-Almiñana, Daniel; Suñé Torrents, Albert; Fernández Alarcón, Vicenç; Simó Guzmán, Pep; Algaba Joaquín, Inés María; Albareda Sambola, Maria; Salán Ballesteros, Maria Núria; Amante García, Beatriz; Enache, Cristina Mihaela; Bravo Ibarra, Edna Rocío
Abstract: There are many papers that present the problems of educational videos: need of a high number of resources to create them,
excess of information in the majority of videos, gaps of information between videos and the rest of materials of the courses,
etc. This paper introduces the concept ‘low-cost educational video’, which attempts to solve to a large extent the problems
that have been identified in the educational videos. To this end, an empirical research is conducted with 487 students and
various lecturers and professors in three undergraduate degrees: Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and
Management (in face-to-face as well as semi-distance modalities), and Aeronautical Engineering at the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain). In order to achieve this goal, we introduce the process and the required resources for the creation and the diffusion of these low-cost educational videos. The results are analysed taking a literature-based questionnaire as a starting point and within the principles of good practice in higher education framework. The main research findings revealed an improved student motivation and an increase of the perceived efficiency in the learning and
teaching processes, without substantially raising costs.

Title: Effect of low-cost airlines on tourism in Spain. A dynamic panel data model
Authors: Rey, B.; Myro, R. L.; Galera Rodrigo, Asun
Abstract: This article estimates the impact of low-cost airlines on Spanish tourism during the first decade of the 21st century looking tourist traffic from the principal EU-15 member states using a dynamic panel data. The expansion in low-cost airline activity has had significant, positive direct and indirect effects on the Spanish economy. The study also looks at some of the key elasticities of demand that have influenced this.

How to diagnose equal opportunities between women and men in organizations

Title: How to diagnose equal opportunities between women and men in organizations
Authors: Lusa García, Amaia; Martínez Costa, Carme; Calvet Puig, Maria Dolors; Pons Peregort, Olga; Tura Solvas, Marta
Abstract: Gender equality is now a matter that concerns all European countries. Despite the great effort made by governments and the progress of laws, gender discrimination still exists in family, social, cultural, political and economic spheres. Even today, it is rare to find women at the top level in companies. The path to equal opportunities is long and the only way to improve the situation is by means of appropriate equal opportunities plans. An essential part of the process of designing and implementing such action plans involves diagnosing the situation in a company. In this paper, an innovative indicator model is proposed. A review of numerous international private and public equal opportunities plans led to the design of a model to carry out a diagnose to identify all areas that could be corrected or improved by implementing specific measures, leading the company to deliver real equal opportunities policies. The indicator model is designed for the present historical context, though it is flexible enough to be adapted to each age and situation. The indicator model, which is original, will help companies carrying out one of the most important and essential parts of the process of designing and implementing and equal opportunities plan. Moreover, taking the indicator model companies ensure that all the relevant features are covered.
